Research foci

  • WP1: 2D-membranes for molecular sieving:

Design and development of building blocks and the resulting 2D-molecular sieving membranes to be synthesized at the air-water interfaces of Langmuir troughs.

  • WP2: Photo-tunable membranes:

Design, synthesis, and function of photo-tunable membranes and membrane components (i.e., polymers, MOFs) that alter the membrane’s properties; Evaluation of photo-enhancement of membrane selectivity and/or permeability in a variety of separation challenges.

  • WP3: Photo-regeneratable membranes:

Evaluation of operational lifetime prolongation of the membranes developed in WP2 via photo-regeneration through various illumination protocols.
